Mr. Moscola’s Top Physical Activity Apps:
GoNoodle Games - all ages (best for younger students): Fast paced mini games that get kids moving. Every game requires movement!
NFL Play 60 - all ages: Developed in conjunction with the American Heart Association, and has a football twist. This is less workout based, and more activity based.
Just Dance Now - all ages: Use your phone to dance along with the choreographies from the 2018 video game.
Nike Training Club - all ages; especially older students: This app offers workouts for all levels, and includes guidance from Nike Trainers and some popular athletes. Also, can connect with Apple Watch if you have.
Zombies, Run! - Grades 6-8: Even though the concept of zombies can be a little scary for some, I am recommending this app because the in-game experience is intense and provides some extra motivation that is hard to replicate from just running alone. It includes a storyline to follow like an audiobook, “missions” to complete while running, and you can add songs from your own playlist. A very unique experience if you are into it, but be sure that you and your parents are comfortable with the concept.
Students from Nursery through grade 8 receive Physical Education. Various sport units are taught such as soccer, football, hockey, basketball, and baseball using the Sport Education model. Students learn all aspects of the sport and the skills involved by immersion. Sport-specific exercises are focused on throughout these units. Younger classes learn specific skills of each sport such as throwing, catching, kicking, striking, jumping, leaping, etc. We will be focusing on Fitness and Wellness throughout the school year, using the Fitnessgram test, in which students will be able to assess and track their own levels of fitness. Students will also participate in an Adventure Activities unit, where students will learn various life skills, social skills, and group dynamics, and will be able to carry that information with them for the rest of their lives in order to live a healthy life physically, emotionally, and socially. Furthermore, this course will reinforce Catholic values through sport values like respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
